5 Ways to Use Cream Eyeshadow

When it comes to cream/liquid makeup products like shadows, people tend to stay away from them. Maybe because they’re not as “forgiving” as powder, where it’s harder to just “blend it away” if you don’t like it. Maybe it’s because it takes more work to naturally diffuse and blend cream products.

Whatever the reason, it’s time to pick up that makeup brush and give cream products another try. They have a better staying power than traditional powder products and just a few cream products, like shadows, are so versatile in the way you can use them so you don’t need to buy a million other products.

I like to use the ShadowSense line by SeneGence since they come in a large variety of shades and they’re compact and easy to use, with a doe foot wand applicator. Switching to cream shadows has made my travel makeup bag so much smaller too, and all of my products fit together nicely.

Here’s alternative uses for those cream shadows:

1.  Mix with concealer

Cream eyeshadows are amazing to mix with concealer. If you have one that is white, you can use it to brighten under your eyes instead of buying cream highlighter. If you need a color corrector for dark circles, layer a peachy or copper-toned cream shadow under your normal concealer.

2. Use as brow filler

Forget expensive brow products that melt off your face. With a brown or black matte shade of cream shadow, you can fill in your brows and make it look natural and it’s more water-resistant than brow powder. PS: My favorite is ShadowSense because they have tons of water-resistant shades that are perfect for brows, like Moca Java and Smoked Topaz.

3. Use as blush or highlight

Powder blush and highlight typically are the first things to vanish off your face throughout the day, so cream shadow is amazing because it’s not as likely to smudge or fade. We all know the pain of picking up blush crumbles after you’ve dropped and shattered your pan, and a little tube of cream shadow won’t break so easily. Plus, it won’t create a dry powdery residue on your face- so that means you have to use less setting spray. You can even mix a pinky matte shade and a shimmery shadow shade to get an all-in-one dewy blush.

4. Liquid eyeliner that’s not too glossy

If you don’t like the shiny vinyl look of some liquid liners, try taking a black cream shadow with a liner brush to your lash line instead. It tends to look a little more velvety and soft. Plus, it looks beautiful when it’s smudged out- almost like a gel liner, but you can use it for both shadow and liner so you don’t need to buy multiple products.

5. Use it as lipstick

Since cream eyeshadow is similar in formula to cream lipsticks, you can use it in the same manner. If you’re using LipSense, try doing 2 light layers of LipSense with 1 layer of ShadowSense in the middle, and Glossy Gloss on top. Make sure you let it dry a few extra seconds to make sure it’ll last.

Those are some of my favorite uses for cream eyeshadows besides just as normal eyeshadow. What is your favorite way to use shadow? Favorite shade? Tell me below!
