Introduction
For the past few weeks of class, we were challenged to expand our creative horizons in order to create an eye-catching creative advertisement for a randomly generated object. My object was scissors, so I found it challenging at first to come up with an idea for a creative advertisement. When I finally decided on an idea, I found that I actually enjoyed putting this project together.
Target Audience
My target audience was single females ages 55-65, so I decided to go with a Christmas theme with more subdued colors and images so that it would look more mature but still cute.
My Design
For my design, I chose to put a Santa hat on some Scotch scissors so that it looked like the scissors was wearing the hat. I put the scissors on a third line of the ad to make it the focal point and naturally draw the eye towards it. My background is that of a Christmas tree because it is simple but creates a consistent theme. Then, my text matches the colors of the Scotch logo and the red on the santa hat and on the scotch scissors. I tried to align the scissors, logo, and body copy so that they are all consistent. Lastly, my headline was made to allow the readers to think that Santa uses Scotch scissors because they’re so good.
My first version of the design was made for TV, so it’s bigger in dimensions than the one made for Social Media. My design for Social Media turned out highly pixelated, though I’m honestly not sure why. I’m new at this, what can I say?
Conclusion
I enjoyed this project because it allowed me to be creative and do something that I had never done before. It was fun to learn all about the different ways of using photoshop, even if it was challenging at first. I also enjoyed getting into the Christmas spirit a little bit with this project, even if I’m just promoting scissors.
