Intro- Feminism

  1. What is feminism?
  2. Some may think of “angry feminists” but here is what it actually is.
  3. Hopefully I can show you what true feminism is.
  4. Historically, it means suffrage, right to own property, etc. Now, the feminist movement strives for social and economic equality.

I. Why we need it- socially

  1. Most women have been harrassed
  2. Not enough to say “not all men” because it’s happened to most women
  3. Women victims of rape is 1 in 6

II. Why we need it- economically

  1. Only 32 CEOs on worldwide Fortune 500 list were women.
  2. In a study by Corinne Moss-Racusin, resume with “Jennifer” was viewed as less competent and offered less money than resume with “John”, even with exact same qualifications.

III. Right to choose

  1. Women have rights to choose to be a housewife, in the workforce, or both
  2. Feminism gives men freedom to choose as well.
  3. Nobody should have to be one thing, or a stereotype.
  4. Emma Watson quote- men and women should be strong and sensitive.

IV. How it applies to Mormons

  1. The Family Proclamation states men and women should be equal partners.
  2. Bonnie L. Oscarson quote
  3. Christ treats everyone with respect, so should we.

Conclusion

  1. Hopefully you now understand feminism more and don’t think “angry feminists”
  2. You may not identify as a feminist, but maybe you’ll research and consider it more.
  3. Feminism means equality, and with equality we can make the world a better, safer, more loving place.
